This Great HVAC Advice Should Not Be Missed!

March 16, 2019 by Louise B. Delia

If you need to buy an HVAC system, you may be confused by the many choices. How do you know what type of system to buy? What size do you need? Which features are needed? You may feel intimidated by the vast selection to choose from. If you are feeling overwhelmed by it all, read the info below; it will help you out.

If your HVAC is giving you problems, tour your home before calling a technician. Note which of your rooms are hot and which are cold. This can help the contractor determine the problem areas quickly and fix the problem easily.

When you call an HVAC system for help, you need to be aware of what you need them to do before calling. It is going to be hard to get a price estimate on the phone if the current system isn’t something they’ve seen. It will be way more hard if you can’t figure out what they need to do. This is information that you should have prepared in advance.

Clean the coils and blades in your condenser at the beginning of summer. The power to the unit should be removed before you begin any maintenance, even cleaning. If you see debris, get rid of it.

Each spring it’s time to clean the inside of your condenser unit, including the fan and the sensitive coil. Shut the power off before you do anything. Secondly, pop the grill off, take the blades off and clean them as well as the actual unit.

Don’t get grass clippings on your outside unit. When you work with your lawn mower, make sure it spits the grass to the side opposite of your unit. This includes grass clippings and leaves.

When the trees are losing their leaves, your HVAC unit can suffer. Make sure the fan’s grill is cleaned often during the fall. If your fan is obstructed, it can keep your system from working properly.

If your condenser comes with oil ports, you should lubricate it yearly. You’ll find these ports are covered with a metal or rubber cap. Choose a SAE 20 oil whch is lightweight and non-detergent and place 10 drops or less into each port, ensuring it doesn’t overfill.

Put your outdoor unit in places with shade. As it brings in cool air to cool, you will save a lot of money.

Make sure you have your HVAC system checked at least twice a year. The fall and spring are the optimal times for this maintenance. Even if you do not detect a problem, you can identify and fix any potential problems when you have it checked.

When it gets cold outside, turn off the outdoor condensers. When the temperature goes below 60 degrees, shut off the unit in order to prevent damage. This can keep your HVAC running and can save you money on repairs.

Selecting your HVAC system can be hard to do, and it may overwhelm you sometimes. But, with the information you just read, getting what you need should be much easier. Use the tips shared here and make sure your home is a place of comfort all year.…
