Here’s Some Required Knowledge For Today’s HVAC Novices

March 16, 2019 by Louise B. Delia

The whole concept of HVAC units can be a bit overwhelming to most homeowners. There is some truth to the idea that HVAC systems are complicated. Nonetheless, there is ample information available to help you understand the ins and out of this subject.

Before you contact people to assist you in getting your system fixed, know what kind of system you’re working with in the first place. Get information on the make and model, plus if you have information on the history of maintenance, that will help, too. This will facilitate the process when your contractor asks for this information.

Before contacting a repair service, do a short tour of the entire home. Make a list of the rooms which are comfortable and which just aren’t. Give this information to your contractor when they arrive.

To make sure your condenser fan works properly, keep the fan blades and the coils clean. Turn off your power before doing any job like this. Additionally, it’s important to clear out leaves and other debris from the outside condenser unit.

Each spring, try cleaning the fan blades and coils on the condenser fan. Before you get started, cut the power. Next, pop off the grill, pull out the blades and start cleaning them and the unit itself off gently.

Fall is a hard time on HVAC units. During this time of year, check and clear off the fan grill on your unit on a regular basis. The fan must be unobstructed to work properly, and if it becomes blocked, it could cause your system to break down.

If you need to decide the best place to put your outdoor compressor unit, consider putting it in a location that is in the shade. The cooler the air which goes in, the less work the unit will have to do.

In order for your new unit to be as efficient as possible, or to make older units more efficient, make sure it’s put in a shaded area. The air in the shade is cooler and can help save on energy costs.

It is very important that your HVAC system is serviced two times a year. Generally, you want it done in the fall and the spring. Check it out just to be safe even if there is nothing broken.

Once it gets cold outside, you should turn off the outdoor condenser unit. This should be done when the temperature drops below 60ºF to avoid damage. Doing this keeps your system working well for years and saves you from having to spend money to repair it.

A good way to save money with your air conditioning is by installing a programmable thermostat. These convenient thermostats may shave ten percent or more off of your bills, because they significantly cut energy use when you’re not around. Plus, some models allow you to control them over the internet or from a smartphone.

After reading this article, you should be somewhat familiar with the HVAC unit. It can be difficult to learn this sort of thing without motivation, but if you want to learn, you can. You will be glad you did when everything begins to make sense to you!…
