The HVAC system you have is important to your home, so you can let it go bad. Are you looking for tips to help you keep your HVAC system running? This article is going to teach you exactly what you need to know.

If you have some problems with the HVAC system, check out your home before calling a contractor. Find out which rooms are hot and which are cold. This will allow a contractor to quickly figure out what the issue is and how it can be fixed fast.

Before you choose someone to do HVAC work, figure out what they need to do for you. A contractor will not be able to give you an accurate price without accurate information about your system. If you can’t explain changes you’ve made, the process will be even more difficult. So, know this information in advance.

Keeping the outside condenser clean of debris and leaves will improve the system’s efficiency. Be safe and turn off the power supply before working on your HVAC unit. Additionally, it’s important to clear out leaves and other debris from the outside condenser unit.

Be sure to clean external condenser units regularly. After a wind or rain storm things may pile up, causing problems with your system. Left unchecked, your unit is more likely to break down.

Clean the fan blades and coils on the condenser fan every spring. Make sure to turn off the fan’s power first to be safe. Take the grill off and pull the blades out to clean them.

If the fan on your condenser includes oil ports, they must be lubricated annually. You will notice these ports have a rubber or metal cap covering them. Choose an oil graded SAE 20, it is non-detergent and lightweight. Place about 10 drops into each of the ports, taking care that it does not overfill.

Make certain that an outdoor unit is in the shade. Your unit won’t have to work as hard to cool the inside air if the outside air it sucks from is cooler.

If possible, put your HVAC in a shaded area if it is outside. The unit will have to do less work cooling this air.

Get your HVAC unit serviced two times per year. Most homeowners choose to have their unit inspected during the spring and the fall months. This helps prepare for the coming weather changes of summer and winter. This type if preventative maintenance is highly necessary to ward off any expensive troubles from coming your way.

When it gets cold outside, the outdoor condenser unit should be turned off. Once the temperature drops into the 50s, the unit should no longer be on. This will keep your system in working order year after year, saving you a ton on repairs.

Thinking about and maintaining your HVAC system can be a great way to keep it functioning. When this unit fails, you will be in a lot of trouble. Prevent this from occurring by using these tips.
